Life in Acadia

On Tuesday afternoon we had a special guest come into our class to teach us about what life was like 200 years ago for the Acadian people. This connects to our learning about the diversity of Canadian communities. We learned that the Acadians had to work hard to survive! We got to try making butter, learn about weaving, learn about all the of the chores that they needed to do and paint lighthouses in the Acadian colors of red, yellow, white and blue.

Granery Road and Terry Fox

We have had such a fun and busy week in Grade two! On Wednesday we had our first field trip to Granery Road. We had lots of fun exploring how different small crawling and flying animals live. We climbed in a spider webs, bounced on lily pads and uses our senses to find our way through a bay maze.

On Thursday we got to participate in the Terry Fox run and learn all about how Terry's courage and perseverance made a difference for those who live with cancer and are hoping for a cure.

Have a great weekend Grade Two!

Homework Reminder

Hi everyone - Just a reminder that homework folders are due back tomorrow. I will check them over the weekend and return them on Monday.

Love of Reading

We are thrilled and excited that our school has been adopted by Chapters Chinook! From September 13th to October 3rd, this store is going to fundraise on our behalf through donations done directly at the Chapters Chinook location. We’re also going to be raising funds to support our library through the direct fundraising page, located below. Please spread the work by sharing this link with family and friends.

Our school is going to receive every dollar raised to support our library and receive an additional 30% discount off books when we shop at Indigo & Chapters program donations. These funds will go long way to bringing more diverse and inclusive picture books to our classrooms.

Please help us by showing your support for our library and our school community! We look forward to surprising the staff and children at Le Roi Daniels School with all the new library books this year!  Thank you for your continued support.

Increasing Patterns

We have been studying increasing patterns this week in math. Here are some of the great examples we built:

Aren't they great?!?

Also - a reminder that field trip forms are due today. Your student will not be able to join us for the field trip unless you have returned their forms. We are still short 3 volunteers. We are not able to go unless we have volunteers, so if there is any possibility that you can help, please let me know.

Friday September 3

What a fabulous first week! We have spent lots of time talking about what kind of place we want our class to be (like a family!) and getting to know each other. We have also talked a lot about what it means to have a growth mindset and keep on trying when things are hard.

There are a few things I would like to remind you about (we will go over these at our Meet the Teacher google meet next Thursday night as well):

- Students need 2 pairs of shoes to leave at school. One is their black indoor shoes, and the other is a pair of running shoes for gym. Please make sure they have these shoes here by the end of next week.

- Students are not allowed to use the water fountains this year, so they each need to bring a water bottle to school. We will send these home with them on Fridays for washing.

- I sent home the Scholastic book forms today. This is a completely optional program, but if you do decide to order books, it allows us to order things for our classroom as well. Our class code so you can order online is RC553335.

- We have 2 field trips coming up this month! If you already have your security clearance to volunteer, please consider joining us as we will need some help!

  - On September 22 we will be going to Granery Road. This will connect with our "Small Crawling                    and Flying Animals" unit in Science. We will need 4 - 5 volunteers to join us for the whole day.

- On September 28 we are having an in-class field trip where we will be learning about the Acadians for our Social Studies unit. We will have special guests who will lead us in a variety of activities. For this field trip we need 3 volunteers for the afternoon.

Here is a peak into our classroom:

Have a great long weekend!
